Key takeaways
- Most stores look for a Tidio alternative when the AI, not the live chat, becomes the main channel – that is where Tidio’s second, metered bill starts to bite.
- The alternatives split by job: AskSpot, Rep AI and Alhena are built to sell; Gorgias and Intercom Fin to support; Smartsupp is the budget live-chat swap.
- Compare the all-in cost at the same AI volume, not the entry price – the models (per seat, per outcome, per session, per conversation) differ too much for stickers to mean anything.
- If you sell on Allegro or Amazon, or in many languages, only one tool on this list answers in marketplace inboxes.
Why stores look for a Tidio alternative
Tidio is a live-chat and chatbot suite for small online stores, with an AI agent called Lyro. It is genuinely easy to start with – there is a free plan, and the base plans are cheap. The friction usually starts once the AI handles a real share of your conversations, for three reasons.
- The AI is a second bill. Lyro is billed separately, per AI conversation, on top of the base plan – around €700 ($756) a month for 1,000 AI conversations, plus a plan such as Growth (€59 / $64 a month). AI chats don’t count toward the plan’s own conversation limit, so you pay both meters.
- The AI can run out. Lyro conversations are capped per tier. On the Free and Starter plans the allowance is 50 conversations in total, not per month, and Lyro stops answering once it is used up.
- It supports more than it sells. Tidio does not advertise photo product search, agentic checkout inside the chat, or answering in Allegro and Amazon marketplace inboxes.
That third point is the one that matters most for a store. A shopper asking “which of these fits a 60 cm wardrobe?” needs an assistant that reads your catalogue and can put the right product in the cart, not just a polite answer. That is the job of an AI Chat Agent built for e-commerce, and it is the main line that separates the alternatives below.
Tidio is still a good fit if you want a permanent free plan, a full seat-based helpdesk, live video calls with shoppers or social channels today – and your AI volume stays small.
How we compared the alternatives
Every tool was checked against its own public product, pricing and documentation pages in September 2026 and scored on the same 16 capabilities we use across our comparisons – selling, support and reach, and general functions. A tick means the vendor documents the feature, a tilde means it is limited or partial, and a dash means it is not advertised. Tidio itself scores 10 of 16. AskSpot is our own product and is scored on the same rubric, so read the tables, not our adjectives.

Where it’s strong
- Drop-off detection and cart rescue
- In-chat add-to-cart on Shopify

How much do the Tidio alternatives cost?
At about 1,000 AI conversations a month, the alternatives range from roughly €185 to €1,635 ($200 to $1,765) – but the models are so different (per seat, per outcome, per session, per conversation) that only the all-in cost at the same volume is a fair comparison.
| Tool | How it’s priced | ~1,000 conv / mo | ~2,000 conv / mo |
|---|---|---|---|
| AskSpot | Flat monthly rate for 1,250 conversations, then €0.18 ($0.22) each; no seat fees | €250 / $290 (1,250 included) | €385 / $455 |
| Tidio | Base plan + Lyro AI per conversation | ≈ €760 / $820 (Growth €59 + Lyro ~€700) | ≈ €1,460 / $1,575 (Growth €59 + Lyro ~€1,400, estimated)* |
| Smartsupp | Mira AI Agent, per 100 conversations | ≈ €185 ($200)* | ≈ €370 ($400)* |
| Rep AI | Per website session (Sales + Support) | ≈ €244 / $263* | ≈ €428 / $462* |
| Alhena | Per conversation, bundled with AI visibility | ≈ €1,110 / $1,199 (Scale) | ≈ €2,000 / $2,159 |
| Gorgias | Helpdesk + AI Agent bundle, then per AI interaction | ≈ €1,635 / $1,765 | ≈ €3,025 / $3,265 |
| Intercom Fin | Per seat + €0.92 ($0.99) per outcome | ≈ €950 / $1,019 (one seat) | ≈ €1,865 / $2,009 (one seat) |
* Smartsupp publishes Mira’s price for 100 conversations only, so its figures are estimated from that rate. Tidio’s calculator prices Lyro up to 1,000 AI conversations (€700), so the 2,000 figure doubles that rate. * Rep AI bills by website traffic, not chats. We assume 1,000 conversations come from about 25,000 sessions (4% of visitors start a chat), which is its 25,000-session tier. We quote Concierge – Sales + Support together – because AskSpot’s Chat Agent also handles both; the Sales module alone is €194 ($209). 2,000 conversations means about 50,000 sessions. Fewer chats per visit push it into a higher tier. Intercom’s figure is for a single seat – real teams buy several. All figures are monthly billing, from each vendor’s pricing page, re-checked October 2026; USD converted at €1 ≈ $1.08 (Tidio is priced in EUR). Cheapest isn’t the same as doing the most: Smartsupp’s Mira advises but doesn’t add to cart or check out, and Rep AI is Shopify-first. To model AskSpot on your own volume, use the cost estimator.
How to choose a Tidio alternative
Start from the job the AI has to do in your store, then match the tool to it.
- You want the AI to sell from your catalogue: AskSpot on any platform – product and photo search, in-chat cards and checkout. On Shopify only, also shortlist Rep AI and Alhena.
- You sell on Allegro or Amazon, or in many languages: AskSpot – the only tool here that answers in marketplace inboxes, in 200+ languages, on the same catalogue and order data.
- You mainly want cheap live chat with some AI: Smartsupp – or stay on Tidio’s base plans and keep the AI volume small.
- You run a support team on a helpdesk: AskSpot’s AI Inbox Agent works inside the helpdesk you already use – Freshdesk, Thulium or Zendesk – through its API, so your team keeps its tools. If you need the helpdesk itself (macros, SLAs, seats), look at Gorgias on Shopify or Intercom Fin as a broad support platform.
