Key takeaways
- The chat can add leads (e-mail, name) to a Klaviyo list automatically.
- You provide two things: a Private API Key and a List ID.
- The key needs Read + Write on Lists, Profiles and Subscriptions.
- A free Klaviyo plan is enough to start.
What the connection does
When a shopper leaves their details in the chat – a newsletter sign-up, a contact form – the AI chat agent adds them to a Klaviyo list, so the lead is in your marketing automation from the moment it is captured. You provide a Private API Key and the ID of the list the leads should land on.
What we will need
- Private API Key – to authorise the connection.
- Klaviyo List ID – the list chat leads should be added to.
Step 1 – Create a dedicated Klaviyo list
The list is where AskSpot adds the contacts captured in the chat (newsletter sign-ups, contact-form leads). Create one for this purpose.
How to find the List ID. Open the list by clicking its name. The List ID is the string in the page URL after /list/. For example, in https://www.klaviyo.com/list/Y6nRLr the List ID is Y6nRLr.
Step 2 – Generate a Private API Key
The key lets AskSpot securely add contacts to your list. Give it Read and Write on the three scopes below:
| Scope | Read | Write |
|---|---|---|
| Lists | ✅ | ✅ |
| Profiles | ✅ | ✅ |
| Subscriptions | ✅ | ✅ |
Keep the key private. A Private API Key gives access to data in your Klaviyo account. Do not share it publicly or put it in front-end code – send it only to your AskSpot contact, through a secure channel.
Step 3 – Share the details with AskSpot
Once you have the list and the key, pass the two values below to your AskSpot customer success manager, through a secure channel (a one-time note or a password manager), never plain e-mail:
| Detail | Example |
|---|---|
| Private API Key | pk_abc123def456… |
| List ID | Y6nRLr |
| List name (optional) | AskSpot Chat Leads |
What happens next (on our side)
Once we have the details, the AskSpot team connects the chat to your Klaviyo account, sets up the lead-capture scenarios (a newsletter pop-up, a contact form in the chat), tests that contacts land on the list correctly, and lets you know when it is ready – at which point you can build your Flow in Klaviyo (for example a welcome e-mail).
For the full picture of the chat agent, see the Klaviyo integration.
Next – measure conversions. Once the chat is live, connect Google Analytics to see which conversations lead to sales. See how to track the AskSpot chat in Google Analytics.
Do I need a paid Klaviyo account?
No – Klaviyo’s free plan (up to 250 contacts / 500 sends a month) is enough to start. The AskSpot integration can be set up on any plan.
What data does AskSpot send to Klaviyo?
By default the customer’s e-mail and name. Optionally we can add extra profile properties, such as the lead source or the page the chat was on.
Can I use an existing list?
Yes, but we recommend a separate list just for chat leads – it makes it easier to track performance and build dedicated Flows.
How long does it take?
About 5–10 minutes on your side. After you share the details with your AskSpot contact, we set the integration up within 1–2 business days.
